What aspiring physicians do they do while in college is MUCH more important than where they go to college. Attending a college where you will thrive—in and out of the classroom—is key.
Don’t believe me? Here are 15 colleges—some you may not have heard of—from where students consistently gain admittance to medical school at rates far above the national average.
- Allegheny College: “Graduate or professional school: 80–100% acceptance rate—twice the national average—including medical and law schools.”
- Belmont Abbey College: “Nearly 100% admit rate to medical school.”
- Carroll College: “Students who earn their pre-med degree are consistently accepted into medical school at a rate of 85 percent — far higher than the national average of less than 50 percent.”
- Cornell College, Iowa: “Cornell’s five-year medical school acceptance rate (2013-2017) is 82%; the national average for those years is 39%.”
- Franklin & Marshall College “In the past 3 years, applicants with a 3.4 overall GPA , 3.3 science GPA, and a 76% or better on their MCAT have earned acceptance to medical school at an 91% rate.”
- Meredith College: “Meredith’s Pre-Health Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program has a more than 90% acceptance rate to health professional schools. We offer personalized advising, shadowing and clinical experiences, and an individualized curriculum.”
- Muhlenberg College :“Over the past eight years, 87 percent of all graduates who applied to medical school were admitted.”
- Pepperdine University: “For the past several years, the usual percent of accepted applicants is between 70% to 80%. We have about 20 to 30 Pepperdine students that apply to medical school each year.”
- Rhodes College: “Eighty-six percent of Rhodes graduates with a GPA greater than 3.4 and an MCAT score greater than 57 percent have been accepted to medical school over the last five years.”
- Saint Mary's, Notre Dame: “90% of pre-med student who obtained a 3.6 GPA or higher are accepted to medical school or other health professional programs.”
- University of Puget Sound: “The 10 year average for University of Puget Sound is over 80% (compared to a national average of 40%).”
- Washington & Lee: “Over the past ten years, over 87% of students who applied to medical schools from W&L secured placement.”
- Ohio Wesleyan University: “Over the past 10 years OWU students were accepted into medical school 100% of the time when their OWU GPAs and MCAT scores were at or above the national mean for acceptance.”
- Xavier University: “92 percent acceptance rate for last year, exceeding Xavier’s five-year average acceptance rate of around 85 percent.”
- Ursinus College: “Acceptance rates vary from year to year, but on average 75% of Ursinus students applying to medical school receive acceptances.”
